The Philippine Educational Theater Association – Children’s Theater Program (PETA-CTP), through the support of Terre des Hommes Netherlands, recently held Sining ng Bata, Sining na Buhay: Children’s Arts Happening 2012. The three-day workshop forum and performance series held last November 22 to 24 celebrated the illustrious theater organization’s programs to create a better life for Filipino children through art.
The annual Children’s Arts Happening organized by the PETA-CTP marks the end of a season of workshops, performances, tours and activities focused on both enhancing talents and voicing out concerns of the Filipino youth through theater, music and artistic expression.
The event kicked off with a two-day workshop forum with the theme “Arts & Culture-based Approaches in enhancing Expression, Creativity & Participation among Filipino Children and Youth.” The workshop emphasized PETA-CTP’s stance that through arts and creative experiences, children become interested and motivated to engage and participate in the various activities concerning them and their development. The forum featured talks by prolific child and youth activists such as Dr. Honey Carandang of the MLAC Institute for Children and Families, and Efren Penaflorida of the award-winning Kariton Klasrum.
Children’s Arts Happening 2012 was capped off with a showcase on November 24, featuring performances by the Kaibigan Cultural Group and select scenes from PETA’s Tandang Sora: Ang Lola Nating Bayani (in cooperation with the Quezon City Office of the Vice Mayor) and Boto-Boto Pick!
