Roof Deck

The ROOF DECK

(3rd Floor)

The Roof Deck is an urban garden camouflaging its Open Air Theater identity. This deck enables PETA to retain an integral stream of its performance style and training cultivated through decades of stage work in the Rajah Sulayman Theater of Fort Santiago. This is a refreshing venue for rehearsals, performances, outdoor exercises, social gatherings, or plain gastronomic adventures. It has its own comfort room and pantry, and can be accessed through the main stairs, a fire exit lined up with PETA posters since the 60s, and a regulated passage though the theater catwalks.

A year after the Theater Center construction, PETA decided to add a canopy over part of the roof deck. This was made possible through the generosity of Engr. Boy Sy, Architects Cecil Padilla and Vincent M.B. Pinpin.

The roof deck has been functioning as a space warmed by the camaraderie of friends. It is a flexible dynamic living space – a dining room, a studio workshop, a rehearsal space, an experimental venue, and so on.
